WebMar 3, 2013 · I have used 5.0 grains Bullseye with the 180 gr cast for a long time. Very accurate and the recoil seems 'in the middle' for me. I would encourage you to try 8.0 grains Blue Dot - have some real nice groups. Unique has done good as well. Planning on testing with AA#5 and AA#7 soon. If I were limited to one .45 Auto powder, it'd be Unique. It's versatility is amazing. A box self-defense ammo would last be 3 lifetimes. Old stock in gun stores have come home with me, and estate sales or outright freebies. Stuff like W540, SR 4756, and HS6 work good too. A dedicated caster is also a good scrounge! It would (just) make major from a 6" barrel back when a 6 shot .357 could still be somewhat competitive in USPSA revolver class. I just use a minimum charge of 15gr of 296 with 158gr coated lead bullets.
